WORKSHOP
Adult Amateurs
with Anna Chirescu
Tuesday 14 October
Time: 18:00 - 20:30
Wednesday 15 October
Time: 18:00 - 20:30
Location: OM Studio (26 Constanța St.)
Choreographer: Anna Chirescu
The workshop invites participants to work with the physical and conceptual materials of the choreographic piece KATA by Anna Chirescu. During the sessions, the relationship between body and space will be explored, in particular through the idea of an invisible partner—a dimension inspired by kata practice in Karate, where movement enters into dialogue with an imagined presence and intention.
The workshop also proposes an exploration of the voice, not only as an extension of movement, but as a score in its own right—capable of shaping rhythm, atmosphere, and embodied meaning. Another central point is the notion of personal folklore, approached through the repetitive use of steps as a choreographic tool to generate effort, endurance, and a shared sense of belonging.
Through these working directions, participants are encouraged to reflect on the body as a site of memory, ritual, and resistance.
The workshop is open to young dancers (ages 16–18) as well as adult amateurs with minimal prior experience in contemporary dance workshops.
The workshop will be held in English.
Participation is free; registration via the form.
Limited places.

Anna Chirescu is a Paris-based dancer and choreographer. Trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMD) and at UC Irvine, she has collaborated with various choreographers and performed works from the Merce Cunningham repertoire both in France and internationally. She is co-founder of the company LAVA together with visual artist Grégoire Schaller. Their works lie at the intersection of dance and visual arts. Her own creations—including VACA (2022) and the solo KATA (2025)—investigate how bodies carry memory, history, and ideology. Through these works Anna questions the objectification of the body and the tension between intimacy and collectivity. Blending dance, voice, and visual arts, her artistic practice often draws from archives, myths, and contemporary discourses. As a collaborating artist she frequently works with creators from theatre, music, and visual arts, among them François Chaignaud, Théo Mercier, Aurélia Ivan, and Lorraine de Sagazan. Alongside her artistic activity, Anna holds two Master’s degrees: in Modern Literature (Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris III) and in Human Sciences (Sciences Po Paris), and she regularly leads workshops and masterclasses.
